Abstract

The effect of PABA in rd10 mice on photoreceptor survival, rhodopsin, blue opsin and red/green opsin contents were quantified in retinal
sections using immunofluorescent techniques. The red/green cone opsin content was significantly higher in the retina of rd10 mice treated with
PABA(р<0,05). Thereby, there was a significant protection of cones after PABA treatment. PABA provides protective effect to cones from degeneration
and may potentially serve as an addition to antioxidative treatment in retinitis pigmentosa.
